Instructor: James Hamel
Education: A class of 2012 graduate of the National Training Institute with diplomas as a Master Instructor/trainer from the University of Michigan.
Bio: 1997 - 2008 Journeyman Installer/Technician for several Local 8 contractors. Eleven years as a field service technician as well as project foreman. Currently a full time instructor at the Toledo Electrical JATC since 2008; he teaches apprentice classes in Telecommunications and assists the electrical and residential programs. He is also a certified BICSI instructor.

Instructor: Christopher Roth
Education: Chris graduated from Roy C. Start HS in 1999; completed the residential apprenticeship program in 2002 amd the inside apprentice program in 2007 at the Toledo Electrical JATC. Chris has taken many journeyperson education classes and had furthered his education by attending and graduating from the National Training Institute in 2015 at the University of Michigan. Chris continues to attend the National Training Institute every summer to renew certificates and further his education.
Bio: Chris is a proud member of IBEW Local 8 and has worked for many contractors as a journeyperson and foreman. Currently a full-time instructor since 2016; he instructs the residential and inside apprenticeship classes and many journeyperson classes including OSHA 10, 30 & NFPA 70E Safety courses.

Instructor: Patrick Cryan
Education: Patrick graduated from Perrysburg HS in 2001; US Navy Gas Turbine Systems Technician A School 2003; Toledo Electrical JATC residential apprenticeship graduate of 2006; Toledo Electrical JATC Inside apprenticeship graduate of 2013; Patrick has taken many journeyperson education classes and has furthered his education by attending the National Training Institute from 2014 - 2019 at the University of Michigan. Patrick continues to attend the National Training Institute every summer to renew certifications and futher his eduation.
Bio: Patrick is a veteran of the United States Navy. He has been a proud member of IBEW Local 8 for over 13 years. He has worked for several contractors over that time as an apprentice, journeyperson and as a foreman. Patrick is currently working as a full-time instructor a the Toledo Electrial JATC. He instructs the Residential and Inside apprenticeship classes along with a couple of Journeyperson classes including NFPA 70E and Code of Excellence.

Instructor: Jeffery Smith
Education: Jeffery has attended Northwest State Community College, completed the Inside apprentice program in 1998, attended the University of Toledo and Northwestern Business College
Bio: Jeffery has been an Inside wireman in good standing with IBEW LU#8 since 1998. During his tenure, He has been a Foreman and General Foreman on multiple projects within local #8 jurisdiction. He has worked as a part-time instructor teaching Foreman Development Series since 2019 and was hired as a full time instructor in 2020.

Committee Member: Michael Deaton
Educational History: Graduate of St. John's Jesuit High School an Graduate of Bowling Green State Univeristy - Construction Management
Bio: Joined the JATC in 2005 and completed the program in 2009. After the JATC, went into the office at Laibe as an estimator/project manager for 5 years. In 2016 was promoted to Executive Vice President and started to oversee the daily operations. In August of 2017 leadership rolls changed again and I became President. Throughout my years at Laibe, I’ve maintained multiple contractor licenses in 26 states as well as achieving my BICSI RCDD certification.

Educational History: Bachelor of Science Degree in Business from Ferris State University, Trustee training from the National Training Institute.
Bio: Chapter Manager of the Ohio/Michigan Chapter National Electrical Contractors Association (NECA) since 1995. Assistant Chapter Manager Minneapolis Chapter 1986 to 1995. Served close to a decade as a trustee on two separate apprenticeship programs. Currently serve on advisory boards for Rogers and Start High Schools in the Toledo Public School System.

Committee Member: Patricio Covarrubias
Educational History: A 1977 graduate of Macomber High School. I started apprenticeship in 1980 topping out in 1984. I have completed numerous Journeymen Education Classes including Motor Control, Rigging, First Aid and Photovoltaic.
Bio: Started work in the Trade in 1977. As a senior in high school I did co-op for Belgrin Electric. I stayed with the shop until I started my apprenticeship in 1980. I have been married to my wife Sandy for 38 years and have 2 sons who follow me into the trade. (Pat and Justino) I am the first of 7 family members who are a part of the Local 8. Currently I am in my second term on Local 8 Executive Board and have served as Vice President for 3 years. This is my 12th year serving on the Toledo JATC Committee.

Educational History: JATC 4 Year Apprenticeship, Journeyperson Inside Wireman, Toledo, Sandusky, State of Michigan and Ohio Fire Alarm Licenses. High School Graduate, Some College at Univeristy of Toledo
Bio: 35 Year Member IBEW Local 8 Journeyman Electrician, Currently serving as Local 8 Business Manager. Served as assistant manager for 5 1/2 Years, Executive Board Member 9 years and Trutee for Health and Welfare for 12 years.
