Residential electricians run wire, install panels, connect devices and make sure every light switch, outlet and circuit works safely and correctly.
This is hands-on, skilled work that touches people’s daily lives. As housing demand grows across the Toledo region, qualified residential electricians remain in high demand, and those trained through a Registered Apprenticeship Program arrive ready to perform from day one.

On The Job
What Residential Electricians Install, Service & Maintain
- Electrical service entrances and distribution panels
- Branch circuit wiring for lighting, outlets and appliances
- Low-voltage wiring for doorbells, thermostats and smart-home systems
- Smoke and carbon monoxide detectors and safety devices
- Ceiling fans, fixtures and recessed lighting
- HVAC disconnect wiring and electric water heater connections
- Electric vehicle (EV) charging equipment
- Solar panel system wiring and battery backup
- Whole-home generators and transfer switches
Program Details
The TEJATC Residential Apprenticeship
A cornerstone of regional workforce development since 1978. What began as a two-year trainee program is now a full Registered Apprenticeship Program through the U.S. Department of Labor, not a trade-school certificate.
Apprentice Wage Progression
Your Pay Rises At Every Period
You receive a pay increase at each period of the program. The scale below reflects the standard progression toward the journeyman residential wireman rate.

Apprentices receive a pay increase at each program period. Percentages shown are of the current journeyman scale; current-cycle hourly dollar rates are available from the TEJATC office at 419-666-8088. All fringe benefits except pension are paid at the same rate as journeymen.

Minimum Requirements To Apply
To be eligible for the TEJATC Residential Electrical Apprenticeship, applicants must meet all of the following.
- Be at least 17 years of age
- Be a high school graduate or hold a GED
- Have completed one (1) credit of high school algebra
- Submit a copy of your birth certificate and official transcripts within 60 days
- DD-214 if you are a veteran seeking consideration for military training
- $20 processing fee paid by check, money order, Mastercard or Visa (no cash)
Program Selection Policy
Once you are selected and accept placement into any TEJATC program, your name is removed from all other selection lists. This protects the continuity of each program and the investment TEJATC makes in every apprentice. Effective Aug. 11, 2020.

Physical Demands
Climbing ladders, scaffolds and lifts; crawling, crouching and working in confined spaces; lifting 25–50 lb regularly; using hand and power-assisted tools. Be prepared for active, physical work in the field
