Building the Future: Highlights from the 2026 Electrical Summit
The future of the electrical trade in northwest Ohio was on full display when the Toledo Electrical JATC hosted its annual Electrical Summit. High school students from across the region spent the day learning and exploring what it takes to build a career in the electrical industry, and the energy in the building said it all.
Five Area Schools Joined the Summit
The TEJATC welcomed students from the following Northwest Ohio schools:
- Whitmer High School
- Waite High School
- Penta Career Center
- Vanguard-Sentinel Career Center
- EHOVE Career Center
A Behind-the-Scenes Look at the Trades
The Electrical Summit was built to give students a transparent, first-hand look at the career paths available through a TEJATC apprenticeship. Throughout the day, students explored what it takes to go from a high school diploma into an electrical career in one of the TEJATC’s three core programs:
- Inside/Commercial — Training for work in industrial and commercial settings, forming the backbone of local infrastructure.
- Residential — Focused on the specialized skills needed for home electrical systems and modern residential living.
- Telecommunications — An introduction to the high-tech side of the trade, covering data, fiber optics, and communications systems.
Learning Directly From Trades Members
Students did more than tour a building. They heard directly from the people who work in the electrical trade. The day’s events included the following:
- Facility Tours — Students walked through TEJATC’s training labs and saw the equipment apprentices use to learn and eventually master their craft.
- Instructor Perspectives— Veteran instructors spoke about what it takes to succeed both in the classroom and on the job site.
- Apprentice Q&A — Current apprentices answered student questions and shared what it’s really like to earn a paycheck while learning the trade.
- Industry Leadership — Regional leaders spoke about the growth of the electrical industry in the Toledo area and the long-term stability created by the IBEW/NECA partnership.
