A Career That Pays You To Learn  Without Student Debt

Most people are told there are only two paths after high school. There’s a third, and it’s been producing skilled, well-paid professionals in northwest Ohio for generations.

The Third Path

Go To Work. Get Paid. Graduate Debt-Free.

A registered electrical apprenticeship through the TEJATC puts you to work in the field from day one, pays you a union wage while you learn, and delivers a nationally recognized credential no one can take from you.

You won’t graduate with $50,000 or more in student loan debt. You’ll graduate with a career and a place in IBEW Local 8.

Earn While You Learn

The Model That Works Backwards From College

Colleges ask you to pay for years of education before you see a return. The TEJATC apprenticeship works the other way around. It starts with a paycheck, not a bill.

On The Job

Most of your training happens in the field, working under journeymen on real commercial, industrial and residential projects. You’re a working apprentice, doing real work and being paid for it.

In The Classroom

Related technical instruction at the TEJATC Training Center covers electrical theory, blueprint reading, the National Electrical Code, safety and trade-specific skills.

College Credit

Through our partnership with Northwest State Community College, apprentices earn college credit toward a two-year associate degree at no additional cost.

Benefits

A Complete Compensation Package

You don’t just earn an hourly wage. You earn employer-paid fringe benefits through the Toledo Electrical Benefit Plans, backed by IBEW Local 8 and the contractors who employ you.

Health & Welfare

Employer-paid contributions provide health coverage for you and your family contributed on your behalf, not deducted from your paycheck.

Pension

Your employer contributes to a defined pension program, so you start building retirement security from the earliest stages of your career.

401(k)

Apprentices also have access to a 401(k) savings plan, an additional tool to build long-term financial security alongside your pension.

Employee Assistance

You and your family have access to the Support Link EAP: confidential, professional support for personal, financial, legal and mental-health concerns.

IBEW Local 8 Membership

You become a member of one of the largest, most respected local unions in northwest Ohio with collective bargaining, advocacy and a professional network.
